Review the steps below to help you move through the application and registration process.
Entrance Requirements:
- Valid Manitoba ID or Permanent Resident Card.
- 19 years or older. (Some Exceptions apply.)
- English Language Proficiency: Benchmark 7 or Stage 3
Step 1: Do you want to complete a Mature Student High School Diploma or are you Upgrading only?
Decide whether you are taking classes to upgrade or to obtain your Mature Student High School Diploma.
Students seeking a Manitoba Mature Student High School Diploma need 8 credits to graduate.
- At least 4 of those credits must be at a grade 12 level (40S or 41G) and must include English and Math.
- The remaining 4 credits can include any optional courses we offer at our adult learning centre.
Students who are upgrading, who have already achieved grade 12 graduation in Canada or elsewhere, are encouraged to take 4 credits, including English and Math, to receive an upgrading completion certificate.
STEP 2: Review the Course Description page
Review the course description before completing the online application form so that you have an idea of the course(s) you would like to take in the upcoming semester.
STEP 3: Complete the Online Application Form
Complete the online application form. There is no application fee.
Note: At this point, you are not registered for any courses yet.
STEP 4: Make an appointment for a Math and English Assessment
Someone from SVAE will contact you to make an appointment to do an in-person Math and English Assessment, which could take 60 mins – 90 mins to complete.
Note: If you are interested in having previous high school credits reviewed for possible transfer in order to meet the requirements for a Mature Student High Diploma, please bring copies of your past transcripts.
STEP 5: Receive email with link to Registration Form & Pay Fees
Based on your assessment results, you will be invited to register for classes or additional training with another centre.
SVALC will email you to register you for your courses.
Registration Fee: $20 per Semester or $40 for the whole school year. There are no refunds.
STEP 6: Receive an invitation for an Orientation Session
SVAE will invite you to attend an online (or in-person) orientation session 1 to 2 weeks before classes begin.
Please Note: Depending on when you apply, it may take several weeks for you to register for courses. For example, if you are applying for Semester 1 (September to January), the course schedules will be available in June or July.
